Fierceness Served

Creating Black Queer Cultural Spaces

Free Film Screening + Conversation + Party, Saturday, July 1, 2023 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Green Line Performing Arts Center, 329 W Garfield Blvd

For decades, Black queer space-makers have carved out places and scenes that center queer creatives, and that shape and re-define queer Black culture for each new generation. “Fierceness Served: Creating Black Queer Cultural Space” honors the vital role of Black and queer artists and community gatherers with a night of film, conversation and celebration.

The event includes Michelle Parkerson’s new film Fierceness Served! The Enikalley Coffeehouse, clips of Chicago’s queer art spaces Wholesome Roc and Party Noire, and a roundtable conversation with local Black queer cultural leaders, including Stephanie Coleman, co-owner of the Wholesome Roc Gallery. The evening ends with a a celebratory takeover of the Green Line Performing Arts Center.

Fierceness Served is co-presented by Arts + Public Life and Sisters in Cinema, with support from the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture & Biological Sciences Division – Diversity and Inclusion.
